description
Violence, climate change, and poverty have displaced families, forcing them to leave their homes and loved ones, make dangerous journeys through multiple countries, and navigate hostile governments in their search for safety. Militarization of borders, carceral strategies, and removal programs without due process are among the many ways national, state, and local authorities have criminalized individuals who are looking for protection. Immigrant justice groups and civil society actors across Central America, Mexico, and the United States have long served people seeking safety through asylum and a myriad of other pathways, and they have been preparing for the policy changes that will reverberate throughout the region long after the media shifts their attention elsewhere. Join GCIR and Hispanics in Philanthropy (HIP) to learn what groups on the ground have been doing to support and empower people who are on the move, and to get recommendations on howfunders can best deploy resources to strengthen the migrant justice infrastructure in the region.
