Transnational Strategy Community of Practice

Since the establishment in 2023 of GCIR’s Theory of Change, many members have expressed interest in learning more about our emerging transnational work. We’re focused on addressing international forces that drive the displacement, exploitation, and oppression of migrants, and on facilitating transnational collaboration, power-building, and organizing.

To that end, we have launched a new funder learning space: the Transnational Strategy Community of Practice (CoP). This CoP will be a space for funders to:

  • share their knowledge of immigrant-, migrant- and refugee-led transnational organizing and power-building work.
  • learn more about how funders and donors—in the United States and around the globe—are currently investing in and resourcing transnational work.
  • identify opportunities to collectively gather and shape both current and new transnational strategies.

In its pilot phase, we envision the CoP meeting three times in 2024, with two virtual meetings and one in-person meeting at our 2024 National Convening in Detroit at the end of October. For this initial phase, we are inviting funders who already support transnational work, with an eye towards expanding the invitation to other GCIR members and funders interested in supporting more global migration and transnational work.
