The spread of coronavirus is affecting everyone we know here in Tucson. But our friends and neighbors who have been hit the hardest - those who are here without legal status - face the steepest obstacles to getting the support they need. Without a social security number, they cannot access the checks from the coronavirus stimulus package that will provide support for others in our community. Without access to Medicare or Medicaid or any form of state-subsidized health care, they will face staggering bills if they end up in the hospital.
That’s why we need your support. We are mobilizing to create a coronavirus fund for members of our partner groups, including Paisanos Unidos , the Southside Worker Center, Mariposas sin Fronteras, Tierra y Libertad, ScholarshipsA-Z and Trans Queer Pueblo. These groups are grassroots community organizations led by those most affected that work to transform our communities and solve the injustices that affect us all. Because many of our friends who do not have legal status were the first people to lose their jobs once the virus hit, they are feeling the impact. Many will not be able to make their rent payments, cover their bills, or buy food for their families during this time of crisis.
For years, Pronet has stood in solidarity with migrant-led community groups in Tucson. Help us support them so that they can continue their vital work. All the funds we raise will go directly to the groups, who will distribute the money amongst their membership who are most affected by the virus.
Thank you for your support during these tough times.
