Session Description:
As of May 2024, The United Nations Refugee Agency has estimated that over 120 million people have been displaced worldwide as result of conflict, violence, and other human rights violations–double the rate from a decade ago.¹ In addition, it is predicted that 1.2 billion will be displaced by 2050 as a result of climate-related disasters.² A majority of these families and individuals are from the global south, making dangerous journeys to find relief in the United States and Europe. However, the global south continues to be under funded by both private philanthropy and donor agencies in comparison to other regions. A recent report from the #ShiftThePower movement found that over 90% of all Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development's Development Assistance Committee funding remains in the global north.³ Addressing the reasons people migrate requires deepened investment in power building for communities around the globe.
Join this session to learn from a group of funder practitioners about their work to mobilize philanthropy to resource global movements.
