Joy & Wellness: Ensuring Movement Resilience

Session Description:

While the work of building a more just and thriving multiracial democracy is a never ending pursuit, the communities and institutional leaders in the vanguard of this fight cannot be forever indefatigable; they are human, susceptible to trauma, discouragement, and burnout. It is not enough for philanthropy to simply resource their efforts. Funders must pay attention to how those that they ask to shoulder this heavy work are being supported in carving out space for joy and wellness, and ensure that they are resourced to build individual and institutional resilience. In this closing plenary, we will hear from frontline leaders on how they are navigating the challenge of not just doing the work, but also caring for themselves and their staff. We’ll also learn from funders already resourcing this critical work on how attendees can get started on incorporating similar approaches in their grantmaking.
