Session Description:

The extent and significance of the legal needs of migrant populations cannot be understated. People seeking to enter the United States need counsel. Asylum seekers need attorneys to support applications for relief, and immigrants who are detained are much more successful when they have legal representation. Immigrants who face similar harms need litigators to support their claims, and attorneys need resources to represent them in class actions. Community lawyers collaborate with organizers to support a wide array of needs for the community. Litigators work to amplify and defend successes in the courtroom through strategic communications. Finally, some attorneys engage in legislative advocacy, informed by the experiences of their clients, when judicial avenues have become exhausted. How are funders coordinating on the complex legal needs facing migrant communities? What more needs to be done? In this session, panelists will strategize and coordinate on the wide range of funding opportunities available to support justice for migrant communities.
