Session Description:
While some in the media and many political leaders may find it advantageous to paint a sensationalized picture of chaos at the Southern border, in doing so they obscure fundamental truths about how the United States’ immigration system is intended to operate and just how few pathways exist for lawfully entering the country. With a backlog of millions of cases, profits to be made by warehousing immigrant detainees, and the increasingly restrictive policies of multiple administrations, the movement for immigrant justice is losing ground in the fight for safe and sane legal immigration pathways. In this session, funders will learn how to help shift the momentum on border policy, hearing how panelists are supporting asylum seekers, organizing for immigration reform efforts, and readying narrative strategies to adapt to the reality of increasing global migration.
