Today, the Supreme Court blocked the Trump administration’s attempt to end Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). While the decision was made on procedural grounds and not on the merits of the program, it nevertheless provides a reprieve for 650,000 immigrants and their families, including more than 250,000 U.S.-citizen children. 

GCIR staff will be facilitating informal check-in calls as a peer-learning opportunity for CA funders to discuss immigrant and refugee information during the COVID-19 crisis. We welcome all participants to join as they are available to exchange information, share challenges and collaborate with funders from across the state. 

Join practitioners and fellow funders for a conversation on how COVID-19 (‘Coronavirus’) is impacting 2020 civic engagement programs, organizations, and people, and discuss how to support shifts in program and operations.

The stimulus legislation will not extend a helping hand to hard-working immigrant families who do not qualify for federal assistance, even in the midst of a pandemic. If you have reliable income and can afford it, your pledge and eventual donation will be directed to Bridges Academy, an Oakland public school, that serves a largely immigrant population where 80% of students are English language learners.
