We Count and We Will Make Our Voices Heard
Today, the Supreme Court decided to block Trump’s citizenship question and asked the Commerce Department to further explain their reasoning for adding the question. For now the question about citizenship will not be added to the 2020 census.
Sulma Arias, spokeswoman for FIRM Action, said the following:
“Today’s ruling means we have won a key battle but our fight to ensure our communities are counted continues. We’ve stalled the administration’s racially motivated attacks on our families, and are ready for their next move. While the case is litigated in the lower courts, we are doing what we do best: organizing and preparing our communities to be counted in the 2020 census. We know the political power of our communities and we will show up in full force at the polls to elect candidates who share our values.
With so much on the line, including Congressional representation and resources for the next decade, it’s imperative that we be active in our democracy. Our commitment remains strong to ensure Latino, Black and immigrant communities be counted.”
