Promoting Naturalization and Citizenship: What Funders Can Do, A National Teleconference Briefing

Date:
11/18/2008
Time:
11:00 – 12:30 AM PT
Location:
Teleconference
Event Description:

Grantmakers around the United States are talking about, planning, and experimenting with approaches to encourage and help the 8.5 million eligible immigrants become U.S. citizens. A key aspect of immigrant integration and civic engagement, naturalization requires immigrants to have sufficient English skills to interview and pass a written test, a working knowledge of U.S. civics, a properly completed application-and the money to file. In this telephonic briefing, funders will have an opportunity to learn about the basics of funding naturalization and the services many immigrants need to successfully navigate the citizenship application process. Grantmaking colleagues will share their current funding efforts and offer insights on promising funding strategies and approaches. GCIR also hopes to test interest in a strategy briefing meeting that would promote collaboration, cooperation, and shared learning on naturalization issues.
