Demographic Data

In 2006, there were 37.5 million foreign born in the United States, representing a 20% increase from 2000. But what does that mean on a more local basis for states and counties? Click on the marker for a state in the map below to access demographic data from the 2000 Decennial Census, 2006 American Community Survey (ACS), and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). In addition to general demographics, data include language spoken at home, racial/ethnic breakdown, citizenship status, and refugee arrivals.

Click on the map markers to go to the page for that state. To move around the map, you can do one of the following: Click and drag the map or click the arrows to move north, south, east, and west. Additionally, you can zoom in or out pressing the + or - keys. Move the cursor over a location and use the mouse scroll button to zoom in or out on that location. To center and zoom in on a location, double click the location.
